Important: Whole Story is not a doctor

Read this once. It matters more than anything else here.

Whole Story is a health and wellbeing app. It is not a medical device, it does not practise medicine, and using it does not create a doctor–patient, therapist–patient, or any other clinical relationship.

What Whole Story does not do

  • It does not diagnose. It cannot tell you what condition you have. It may say a marker is outside a reference range, say what that marker generally relates to, and name candidate explanations for a pattern in your own data. It will not tell you which condition you have, and it will say who can.
  • It does not prescribe or change a prescription. It will not tell you to start, stop, change, or split a prescription medication, and it will not tell you to take 400mg tonight. If you tell it what you already take, it can keep track of that and flag an interaction it can see — that is record-keeping and a warning, not a prescription. A dose you have already been prescribed may be characterised, including as unusual; changing it still belongs to the person who wrote it.
  • It does not treat. Nothing it says is a treatment plan, and it is not a substitute for care from a qualified professional who can examine you and knows your full history.
  • It is not a mental health service. It is not a therapist and not a crisis service.

What it does do

It answers ordinary health questions — as well as a good pharmacist or an experienced trainer would — with general information and education. Nutrient and supplement figures, forms and tradeoffs, general exercise and rehabilitation content, and diet and training approaches are in scope. A typical range is information; telling you what to take tonight is not. When it names a figure, it also says what that figure has not accounted for (your kidney function, what else you take, that this is not what is right for you).

It keeps track of what you tell it and what your devices record, and it helps you think about your own behaviour over time. Where something is clinical, it will say so and point you to a professional.

Whole Story can be wrong. It is built on a large language model, and models make mistakes, including confident ones. Do not act on anything it says as though a clinician had said it. Where something matters, check it with someone qualified.

Always talk to a professional before

  • Starting, stopping, or changing any medication or supplement
  • Starting a new exercise programme, especially with an existing condition or injury
  • Making a significant change to how you eat, especially with a medical condition, during pregnancy, or if you have any history of disordered eating
  • Acting on anything you read here that concerns a symptom or a test result

In an emergency, do not use this app

Call your local emergency number. In the US and Canada that is 911; in the UK and Ireland, 999 or 112; across the EU, 112.

If you are thinking about harming yourself or ending your life, please reach someone now:

  • US and Canada: call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline)
  • UK: call 116 123 (Samaritans), free, any time
  • Ireland: call 116 123 (Samaritans)
  • Elsewhere: https://findahelpline.com lists services by country

Whole Story may not be read by anyone for hours, or at all. It is not monitored. Do not use it to ask for help in a crisis.

Symptoms that need a person, not an app

Stop and seek urgent care for: chest pain or pressure; difficulty breathing; sudden weakness, numbness, or drooping on one side of the face or body; trouble speaking or understanding speech; sudden severe headache; a severe allergic reaction; fainting; uncontrolled bleeding; or any symptom that frightens you.

Your responsibility

You decide what to do with your own health. By using Whole Story you accept that you are responsible for your choices, and that neither Whole Story nor its operator is liable for decisions you make on the basis of what it tells you. If that is not something you are willing to accept, please do not use the app.

Age

Whole Story is for adults. You must be 18 or older to use it.
